Great Expectations

August 26th, 2008

Many of you might recognize this dude as Gabe the shop rat. Gabe has learned a lot from each and every one of you who come in here and tell him how to talk to girls, stay away from STDs, create illegal substances out of everyday household items, and everything else it takes to be an awesome dude. Tomorrow the new and improved Gabe will be unleashed on all the unsuspecting teen daughters of our nation’s capital as he departs for college. Best of luck Gabe and remember, wear a raincoat and don’t inhale.

For one night only here in NYC the band performed in their original two-piece line-up that originally put them on the map in the late 1990s, Conrad Keeley and Jason Reece. These guys were awesome and apparently (from what they said) on LSD.

Endless Summer

August 25th, 2008

After doing absolutely nothing outdoor related this Summer, Leslie and I decided to go to the beach. If you have ever driven to the Cape you know this bridge. It’s fucking scary.

On the drive up there is the modern equivalent of the Hatfield’s and the McCoy’s…these two shops are directly across the street from each other in the middle of nowhere and battle it out daily on who can put more shit on the curb. I’ve always wanted to stop at one of these, but I would want to go to the underdog and I’m not sure which one that is…

We met up with our friends Lee and Jay and took the scenic route to the “locals” beach. It was a cool walk because the tide was coming in creating pools and rivers everywhere, flooding the wild grass like a rice patch.

Once you got past that you got this as a reward

When in Rome…you eat pasta…when in P-town…lobster rolls!

Provincetown also has an unusual amount of great boutiques for a beach town. Shit, they even have a Marc Jacobs store, but that is because he has a house there. Anyways, I found this gem called MAP on the far end of the main street and their vibe was perfect. It was a perfect mix of Rock N Roll meets Southern California car kulture. The kind of place that made you want to buy something with great displays and a curated mix of books, accessories, and clothing. I asked the owner Pauline why she didn’t fill a void in Boston’s scene, and apparently she had a shop in the South End for a few years but the scene was a bit uptight. Anyways, if you head out to P-town, this is a must stop.

Motley Fucking Crue!

August 23rd, 2008

My main man Peter over at QRSTS gave me the last minute hookup to the Motley Crue show today so we had to go. Peter actually took me to my first Crue show a year ago, so I had to take Leslie to show her what it’s all about. Crue shows consist of:

Paint It Now!

August 22nd, 2008

Last night we headed deep into the heart of Southie for an amazing art show curated by Buildmore. It was a decent gathering of the who’s who of Boston’s young art scene. The Distillery Gallery was also a nice change for this demographic who is usually only welcomed by local bars and clubs. If you’ve never been, it’s an old Distillery that has been transformed to artist live/work spaces and the show runs for the next month.

One of the first things you will see is the massive black and white painted collaboration on the 20 foot walls with work by everyone in the show. It is now our header on the blog, but if you need another look, here you go. That’s Kenji and Leslie on the left if that helps put it into perspective.

EPS came out strong with this painfully true piece…

The host of the night, Buildmore, on the left and EVOKER on the right…

Greg from Hearthrob won’t apologize for nothin’. Now he’s heading up nightlife at the Enormous Room so be prepared to be amazed!

Kenji’s blue paintings really draw the eye in deep. I’m embarrassed to say I think this is the first time I have seen one of his colored ones in person and they are insane.

This was an how I have always pictured an art show being. Great location, everyone was friendly and outgoing, and there weren’t any fights or beefs. I hope this spot is already planning a repeat for the future. I will leave you with some religious pieces from the show.
