Friday afternoon I informed Kerry that I received a pair of V.I.P. passes (because of my job) to the 2008 Siren Festival at Coney Island. Kerry hopped on a bus and made a late night trip down to Jersey City so that we could rage at Siren all day Saturday. We received unlimited free drinks and all access passes to one of the best festivals of the summer. Kerry and I started with the free drinks.
Then we hit up the V.I.P. stage section to watch us some Jaguar Love
Kerry & I
Later on Kerry got to see his favorite artist of all time Stephen Malkmus
During Stephen’s set Lis and I took off to grab a drink and to go watch Broken Social Scene
After Broken Social Scene played, Lis and I met up with Kerry for some good old Coney Island fun! Junk food and rides!
Believe it or not, I did not put up all of the photos I took. Ha Ha If you want to see the rest of the band photos head to My Flickr Page and those still aren’t all of the photos! Thanks again to Kerry for coming down last minute and raging harder than anyone else I know!
Kenji came to town to show some pieces in the Lower East Side. Kenji being as organized as he is sent me a text three hours before his show starts letting me know he is in NYC for the night so….Lis meets me at work and we both jet over to see Kenji!
When we arrive we see our friend Mitchell and then we all take a picture in front of two of Kenji’s pieces.
After we were done looking at art, we all headed to Tiny’s for an amazing sandwich and then to Label where we were the only four people in the bar all night….but we got buy one get one free drink specials which ruled and the bartender was also playing some awesome blues jams.
Two Proletariat guest artists have been building names for themselves faster and faster in the art world. Of course I am talking about AUKS and Kenji Nakayama. Auks was responsible for this short run of Proletariat tees that sold out faster than Dennis Hopper.
Auks is so amazing because his hands are capable of multiple styles of art. You want graffiti, he can do it. Pen and Ink? Done. Sculpture? Yep. George Bush driving a tank in the style of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth?
Easy. Anyways, you get the picture, and if you are on the left coast check out his work this month at the Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles.
Next up we have Kenji Nakayama. You just saw his Project Red Converse on here a few postings ago, and now he is invading NYC tomorrow night at the Abrons Art Center for a multi-cultural artistic explosion! (I just made that line up but it sounds mad good.) If Kenji wasn’t enough of a reason to go, COPE2 will be showing work as well, so get on the Fung Wah Bus or whatever, skip work, and go get crunkaphone. I’ll try to get pix from these shows and put them up in the future.
Nate and Caitlin came to stay with us this weekend and we brought them to the South Street Sea-Port for a free show. Most of the bands sucked but it was a nice night with friends
Large Boats
The next day while the ladies were busy, Nate and I went way out on the G train to catch what we thought was a free show in Brooklyn.
This was our view
We decided once we walked up and heard how terrible most of the bands were performing at the Todd P party that we would sit on the bridge and watch in hopes of catching a good band and not paying $10. We instead spent $10 at the liquor store
The bridge w/Nate
On the way back from the liquor store we say some real Brooklyn-ites
And realized that biker shorts are all the rage!
And that rivers in Brooklyn are filled with used condoms & Jellyfish
After we got bored of sitting in the sun, we met up with our ladies to attend the Miss-Behave magazine party where we enjoyed free tacos and $2 Red Stripe
And people dressed like this
MODESTY!
We saw this very flavorful bike in front of the Union Pool
Get a good look at the flavor
Can you find the apple?
On the way out we saw some tiny tags
And some Golden Stash <3
Then we saw some dudes that always go big
A Toy Explosion!
And parachuting shoes
We ended our night at Carmine’s Pizzeria (385 Graham Ave. BK) for some delicious slices before we headed back to Jersey to rage the rest of the night. More to come!
J.R. came by today with a small sample oh his vintage can collection. He is planning on moving soon and has a pretty large collection of desirable colors. If you have interest email him at ottomattox(at)gmail.com
Check out the naked lady can…
This is a sad moment for all size 10’s, 11.5’s, 12’s, and 12.5’s. This unfortunately includes me who would have gladly squeezed into anywhere from a 11.5 to a 12.5 to rep my favorite artist’s kicks. For those of you who don’t know Kenji Nakayama, a.k.a. the only Japanese guy at Proletariat and the master of all the stencils hanging in the store (and my crib), created the 9th pair in the Project Red series for Converse. They are selling out fast, and I bet if you wear them into the shop he will be happy to do a 15 layer stencil on top of the kicks free of charge. Just kidding Kenji, who does 15 layer stencils anymore? That is sooooo easy. Anyways, this might be your last chance to own anything from Kenji seeing that he has a show in Hollywood right now and one in Australia in a few months. Buy Here

We did the 4th thing, which seems to resemble every other holiday we celebrate as Americans. You know the drill…eat a lot, get drunk, blow shit up. If you aren’t celebrating Christmas or Easter like this, you are missing out. Anyways, I was busy mixing fruity drinks for the ladies (and myself) so I didn’t take many photos. There are the best two, and least blurry. This guy is keeping China’s flag factory in business…
Here’s Owen pulling the double lobe shot factory drinking my new special 4th of july beverage.
